that's a common theme if you listen to witness testimony from a lot of these events. a lot of people think they're just firecrackers because they aren't familiar with the sound of gunshots and no one expects a mass shooting to happen where they are.

Also: schools have started doing drills with fake shooters and blanks. How can you be sure it's not one of those drills? I feel like those don't help students

The Second Amendment doesn't say that you're free to own all weapons or firearms. It doesn't say that you need to be a legal adult to possess a firearm.

It states the purpose of the amendment so inherently people should have access to whatever the government has and since the government is exclusively adults, it makes sense that you wouldn't be allowed to use child soldiers.

Uh buddy at the time that amendment was created the US was full of child soldiers and remained as such for quite some time

Second Amendment was way back in 1791

There are restrictions on guns in the United States. If possessing a firearm is an inalienable right, these restrictions should not exist. Most people do agree that the restrictions in place are valuable such as requiring a firearm owner to be an adult, or restricting ownership for people with violent criminal histories.

So why can there not be further restrictions on this "right"? The Second Amendment doesn't say that you're free to own all weapons or firearms. It doesn't say that you need to be a legal adult to possess a firearm.

Well I didn't die and I moved across the city. I spent a very uncomfortable few months not going out alone.

And I'm not sure. He tried to friend me on Facebook as recently as 3 years ago. Him being in my neighborhood was 8 years ago (and he was attempting to contact me approximately monthly at that time).

So to be clear this guy that I went out with a few times in high school, who threatened to kill me, kept that stalking shit up for basically an entire decade, if you include that Facebook request.

Is the guy in jail right now?

Nope. He didn't actually shoot anybody. His excuse for the gun was something about hunting, and being a rural area that wasn't uncommon (still not allowed on school grounds). There was a temporary restraining order against him (which he violated continually without punishment). He was expelled for the school year. I think he had to spend part of a day in jail and then got to go home and had to do remedial high school for a year.

I had someone put me on a hit list and bring a gun to school.

this happened, ok?

it happened to me, too. angsty "hit lists" aren't uncommon in high school.

Happened at the first school I attended. I wasn't on it, but many people I knew were. The idiot put it on a blog that he thought no one would ever come across.

That's so shitty. I'm sorry you had to go through that at all.

With the guy that had me on a list that was the first guy I dated. I was new to that town and school. He was in one class. We went out 2 or 3 times and he got really clingy. When he started freaking out about me not responding to his instant messages fast enough and phoning my house repeatedly I told him that wasn't ok and I didn't want to see him any more. He lost it.

So I showed my friend the chat log with him threatening to "take my happiness away" and all this other weird shit. Trying to get me to agree to go alone with him somewhere. I wouldn't. My friend was so worried he reported it to the RCMP. This was at 2am on a weekday and they phoned my house (to confirm I was real and the report was accurate) and my family was pissed.

Next day I go to school and there are cops everywhere. 4 cars, in a small town. I'm chronically late I didn't see what happened but as soon as I walked in the doors people came up to me thanking me for saying something about that kid because he had been threatening and scary to them before. No one warned me.

I got sat down with the principal and a few constables and discussed what happened. They went over the chat with me. Then they revealed that they spoke with him at the school and when they checked out his truck he had a hit list and a loaded gun in it. So he really wasn't fucking around.

I am forever grateful to my friend for calling the cops when I thought maybe this kid was bluffing. I would very likely be dead without that call. Quite possibly other people would have been gone. Weird to think about.

Thanks friend

there's only two sexes. gender is a different story.

Aside from there being intersex (hermaphrodite) individuals more commonly than people realize, there are 6 sexes

X Roughly 1 in 2,000 to 1 in 5,000 people (Turners )
XX Most common form of female
XXY Roughly 1 in 500 to 1 in 1,000 people (Klinefelter)
XY Most common form of male
XYY Roughly 1 out of 1,000 people
XXXY Roughly 1 in 18,000 to 1 in 50,000 births

Look at that from the perspective of a population of over 7 billion people and there are tens of millions of individuals that are not XX or XY

You may not even be the sex you think you are

Probably because, sexist as you may deem it, many sports have separate male and female leagues for biological reasons. One's gender should have little to no effect on one's physical capabilities, but their sex might, as such it is obvious we would divide such things based on sex, not gender.

There's not even two sexes so that's just... Wrong.

and it will just be pure coincidence that the women who join, and then collectively dominate this league, will all be trans. it will have nothing to do with them being biologically male and therefore having an absurd advantage over the actual women they compete against.

Here you go saying actual women. They're all women.

You men seem to care a lot more than women do.

actually, my wife is pretty steamed over it.

also, youre begging the question. not everyone agrees that the best way to treat a mental disorder is to feed into it, and so not everyone believes that its accurate to call this person a woman.

Why is your wife mad that one Australian sports league allowed a trans woman to play with cis women?

it sets a pretty shitty precedent since, as you said, he started out playing in other leagues. no doubt smaller, less reputable ones, which also set precedents to get him into a larger, more notable league.

and because my wife has a brain, and therefore can see the advantage a man would have playing a sport (particularly a heavy contact one) against women.

She. She started in other leagues yes. She is not a man.

I agree that people that are larger have some advantages with some sports, but that's true regardless of gender or what gonads someone is born with. Women with high natural testosterone are going to have some advantages over other women. There's so much biological variation even for people that would be considered cis women that it's just not a concern that some of the few trans women that play sports may be in the same league.

what does it matter if a politican lies about their personal life? as long as it's legal idc what they do in their personal time, unless it affects their job

Lying about personal life while being in office, even if the event took place prior to election, is a shitty precedent. The paying off was only done during the campaign to prevent news stories and interviews from coming out, so it has relevance and potential influence to him even being elected at all.

Are you genuinely asking why people may care that the leader of their country is ok with lying on the record?

i'm saying people don't need to ask about a politicians personal life in the first place. if its legal and not effecting their job then idc, and neither should others. it's none of our business

No one was asking. Stormy Daniels was going to do interviews before the election. She was then paid off to sign an NDA about the affair and keep quiet. Which she did.

Someone asked about the payoff after the election. Not the affair. Trump denied there was anything. Repeatedly. Not no comment: he suggested this was a fabrication. Now the lawyer is saying he did in fact pay her off, from his own personal funds, without reimbursement? What?

People should know what a liar he is. And someone that cannot tell the truth should not be leading a nation.

I am assuming they didn't even find a quarter of them.

How many people are actually stabbed in mass stabbing situations? At schools? Yeah some kids got in trouble for having weapons. I did once for having a knife in my backpack without realizing it. The key here is students didn't actually attack anyone with them. There were no dead or even seriously injured kids as a result.

My homeroom teacher in middle school broke down crying and had to take mental health leave from students picking on her. I had her for 4 years and she was picked on so often. I was in her class when we heard about Columbine. (which I don't recall hearing people suggesting arming teachers then)

Would that teacher at her breaking point have instead grabbed a gun and used it on herself... or students? I don't know. But having a gun in a teacher's desk would not make people any more safe.

Then another armed teacher(s) would take note, and deal with the issue.

are you

fucking

serious

an armed teacher in another classroom is gonna see a teacher snap and draw a firearm? from another room with no visibility? Guarantee the potential is there for a teacher kill several people before anyone could respond.

or heaven forbid a teacher leaves the desk unlocked by mistake. as kids we just put things in drawers to mess with them, or took back confiscated items. Imagine the potential to stumble on a loaded firearm instead of your phone.

But the USA doesnt have a gun problem according to the NRA!

You know guns are illegal in Mexico right? And they have more gun violence than America.

And I think theyre illegal in Brazil too

You realize that the excessive number of American guns are the ones flooding neighboring countries with cheap black market firepower

This shooting was worse than Columbine by all accounts and yet school shootings are so routine now, 19 years later, that this is just another day at another school

It's really sad

Admitting to paying her is probably a violation of the NDA for the settlement. I hope she speaks freely
